Welcome to 8th Grade!

Welcome Parents and Students!

Dear Families,

Welcome back if you are returning to us, and welcome to Paragon if you are just joining us. My name is Heidi Ramey and I will be your child's 8th grade homeroom and/or math teacher this year. I am excited to get back into the swing of things, and get this year started.

A few things to know before the school year begins:

Communication: The middle school teachers depend heavily on email for communication. PLEASE make sure you give me your correct, working e-mail address, and that you check it regularly throughout the year. You can email me at hramey@paragoncollegiateacademy.org. I check my email several times a day. You may call the school; however, due to being in the classroom, I don't always get a chance to respond as quickly. Please check your student's agenda DAILY as they do require your signature every day, but also it is a great way to communicate with me. In addition, I use a program called Remind to communicate through text messages with my students' families. (8th Grade Only) Please text the message @pcagrade8 to the number 81010 to sign up to receive these messages. This also allows you to text me directly. For students in other grades, I will primarily use email to contact you, or will call you directly for any math concerns/reports of great progress.

Homework: Your child will have NIGHTLY homework, including Fridays. Your child will be required to write the homework assignments in class in their agenda. I post the homework on the class website daily. If your child is absent, please check the website or call a buddy from class. *Please note: LATE HOMEWORK WILL HAVE A LIMIT ON WHEN THEY CAN BE TURNED IN! Late homework will also result in a lower grade!

Math:

  •  Homework Corrections: Students are allowed to do homework corrections on their homework assignments they scored a "D" or "F" on. Students will have until the Friday the week assigned to turn in their corrections. For example, if an assignment was due on Monday, they have until that Friday to turn in corrections. If the assignment was due on a Friday, they will have until the following Friday to turn in corrections.
  • Assessments: Students have an opportunity to re-take tests that they scored below an 85% on. There are blue forms in my room that students can fill out, have you sign and return to me to get a re-test date. Retakes are done on Wednesday afternoons from 1-3pm. Students who retake a test will receive up to an 85% on their retest. I will take whichever test score is higher of their two tests, and put that score in the gradebook.
  • Binder Checks: On each test date, there will be a binder check.

I look forward to a wonderful and successful school year with your student. Please feel free to email me any concerns or questions you have.
